PDF editor for Mac, native and free to start
“Editing” a PDF usually means one of a few different things — merging and splitting files, marking pages up, reordering or removing them, redacting content, or signing. Velox PDF covers all of it natively on macOS, plus a set of free instant web tools for one-off edits with no install.

For a quick one-off edit, these run entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server:
The full editor: Velox PDF for Mac
For anything beyond a one-off edit, the native app adds page management (reorder, extract, delete pages), true redaction (not just a black box drawn on top), and a full annotation toolset — highlight, draw, notes, shapes, and signatures — plus on-device OCR and an AI assistant that reads, summarizes, and cites the page it answered from.
It’s a native Swift app, not a web page or an Electron shell — it opens instantly and every editing tool works fully offline.
What it doesn’t do
To set expectations up front: Velox PDF doesn’t rewrite the text already printed into a PDF, and it doesn’t convert PDFs to or from Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Most “PDF editors” that claim in-place text editing are approximating it (PDFs aren’t structured text documents to begin with) — Velox PDF instead focuses on doing page management, annotation, redaction, and signing well.
$39.99 once, or try it free
Every editing tool is included free to try, no sign-in required. A lifetime license is $39.99 once — no subscription, ever.

Can I edit the actual text inside a PDF?
Not yet — Velox PDF can't rewrite words that are already printed into a PDF (few PDF editors genuinely can, since a PDF is a fixed page layout, not an editable text flow like a Word document). What it does well: adding annotations, notes, and signatures on top of a page, and managing pages — reorder, merge, split, extract, delete, and redact.
Do I need to install anything to merge or split a PDF?
No — the web tools below run entirely in your browser, free, with no account. Download Velox PDF for Mac if you want page management alongside annotation, OCR, and AI chat in one native app.
Is Velox PDF a real Adobe Acrobat or PDF Expert alternative?
For markup, signing, page management, redaction, and AI chat with citations — yes, at a fraction of the price ($39.99 once vs. Acrobat's subscription). It doesn't yet do in-place content editing or Office file conversion, which Acrobat's paid tiers do.
Does editing a PDF in Velox PDF upload it anywhere?
No — every page-management and annotation tool runs locally on your Mac. The only feature that talks to a server at all is the AI assistant, and only when you ask it a question.
